BAKE & Make 3.0, the entrepre-neurship webinar for baking enthusiasts, went live on Dec 1.
The event took place at the headquarters of Star Media Group in Petaling Jaya and was broadcast on Facebook and Youtube.
There was a forum highlighting key trends in the baking industry, discussions on the baking start-up business model, cloud kitchens and ways to expand business.
A panel of industry professionals were on hand to offer baking and business advice, including pastry chefs who gave tips on cake decoration techniques.
As part of the event, Anchor Start Up – a first-of-its-kind online learning platform for bakers built with Kuali under Star Media Group – was launched by Anchor Food Professionals Malaysia.
The online learning platform at https://startup.kuali.com features 11 customised courses aimed at boosting home bakers’ skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.
It is geared to encourage the proliferation of small baking enterprises.
Bakers registered with the platform also stand a chance to feature their businesses on The Batter Place, an online local directory.
By listing their businesses this way, the bakers are more likely to increase their sales.
Since 2020, Kuali and Anchor have teamed up to deliver newsletters for bakers and patissiers as well as organise baking contests.
The collaboration has also resulted in cooking demonstrations by Anchor Food Professional chefs streamed live on Facebook as well as entrepreneurial webinars presented by industry experts and influencers.
“This Kuali partnership is about building a home bakers’ community throughout Malaysia and focusing on not just selling a product but also looking at service and solutions,” Fonterra Brands Malaysia food service director Jack Tan told StarMetro.
“With Bake & Make 3.0, we focus on how we can help home bakers to sell more and how we can upgrade (the knowledge of) our own bakers with a systematic and proper educational platform.
“We work with three home bakers to build these educational modules so that we can support home bakers running their business.”
One of the key issues home bakers face, said Tan, was being limited to selling their products via Instagram and Facebook or by word of mouth.
“So we are looking at how we can help them to sell more and reach a larger audience (via The Batter Place).
“With the Star Media Group partnership, we are looking into how we can build a platform.
“The newly launched start-up will serve as a directory to showcase home bakers’ products, and help them reach out to new customers and getting traffic to their websites,” added Tan.
He said with Kuali, there was already a segment for home bakers.
“There is a market demand for specialised, personalised and customised (features), hence our focus on how we can support them through different marketing tools and education.
“For future (endeavours) with Kuali and Star Media Group, next year will see on-ground activation to reach more people.
“I believe there is a digital fatigue. Therefore, going back on the ground and engaging the grassroots, working face to face as well as giving them live demonstrations, real education and support in terms of material and education will be impactful in the months to come,” Tan added.
