In recognition of its continuous strong presence via print, digital, radio as well as events and exhibitions, Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) has been bestowed the Asia Distinguished Media Leadership Award.
With The Star as its flagship brand, it has become the most trusted and leading English news provider in the country.
The award is a nod to SMG’s position at the forefront of the media industry.
It was presented during the Sixth Asia Economic and Entrepreneurship Summit, organised by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia-Pacific, Pacific Basin Economic Council, Asean Economic Club and China Daily Asia-Pacific.
SMG chief content officer Esther Ng accepted the award on behalf of group chief executive officer Alex Yeow at the event held at a hotel here yesterday.
Yeow said the company was grateful for the honour given as part of the organisers’ recognition of outstanding entrepreneurs’ contributions to the region’s economic growth.
“This will only spur us to continue striving to be the leader in our industry and maintain our position as the most trusted English media.
“We aspire to be the pioneers in the industry, boldly venturing into uncharted territories to lead the way and set new standards of excellence,” he said.
Yeow also thanked the company’s loyal audience for their support.
Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who graced the event, presented the awards to the recipients.
Prior to that, Wan Junaidi had received the Asia-Pacific Distinguished Leader Lifetime Achievement Award 2023.
During his speech, he expressed his appreciation and gratitude to KSI Strategic Institute for Asia-Pacific for the accolade.
“This (award) is indeed a great honour and merit for me and for my family.
“I feel humbled by such a meritorious award which places me among the great leaders of the Asia Pacific,” he said.
Some 200 delegates – including government officials, business leaders, industry players and thought leaders – took part in the summit, themed “Powering & Future Proof Asia”.
The summit was divided into two sessions – “The Green Reset: Future Ready Asia – Addressing Geostrategic and Global Political Challenges and Shifts to Digital, Green, and Innovation-Led Growth” and “Entrepreneurial and Business Leadership for a New Era”.
It provided a vital platform for meaningful exchanges of views and insights amid growing geopolitical tensions and geostrategic challenges.
“The summit is aimed at addressing the uncertainties and dangers faced by Asia, while exploring ways to leverage digital, green and innovation-led growth – to drive economic prosperity,” said KSI president Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.
